What shaft sizing is for
Shaft sizing checks whether a lift fits the space you have, or what shaft, pit, and overhead a chosen capacity needs. Blue Star Elevators provides this for architects and engineers while the core is still being drawn.
The shaft, pit, and overhead decide if a lift can be installed. Finding a clash after the core is cast means breaking structure or changing the lift. An early fit check avoids that.

Choose a calculation mode
Forward sizing starts from capacity. Reverse fit starts from a shaft width and depth. Full fit-check adds pit depth and overhead.

Select passenger, freight, hospital, or dumbwaiter.

Select IS, EN, or ASME, whichever applies to the project.

Forward sizing asks for capacity. Speed is optional. Reverse fit and full fit-check ask for shaft width and depth in millimetres. Full fit-check also asks for pit depth and overhead.

Travel height is optional and is entered in metres. Leave it blank if you only want the shaft check.
Common questions
Can I use this if the shaft is not drawn yet?
Yes. Start from the capacity you need. If you already have a shaft, pit, or overhead, enter those instead.
Which mode should I pick?
Use forward sizing when you know the capacity. Use reverse fit when you already have a shaft width and depth. Use full fit-check when you also know the pit and overhead.
Is speed required?
No. On forward sizing, speed can be left open.
What units does the form use?
Shaft width, shaft depth, pit depth, and overhead are in millimetres. Travel height is in metres.
Does this replace a construction drawing?
It is an early check for planning. Final shaft, pit, and overhead dimensions should be confirmed with the Blue Star technical team.
